Thomas B. Crowley Jr. is the chairman and majority owner of Jacksonville, Florida-based shipping company Crowley Maritime.
He and his immediate family own some 80% of the $3.5 billion (revenue) company.
Crowley is the third generation to run the family firm, which his grandfather founded in 1892.
Crowley took over the company at the age of 27, when his dad died in 1994.
He has grown Crowley Maritime's fleet to 125 shipping vessels as of July 2025.

Billionaires are often presented under the romantic myth of the 'self-made person': a narrative designed to justify opulence as the natural reward for hard work, effort, or ingenuity.
